Our vision for the Memphis Medical Center is clear: We will look for every opportunity to position the Memphis Medical Center as an area where education, innovative research, development and clinical care are advanced daily. We will do so through these focused, planned initiatives:
-
Coordinate growth by helping stakeholders understand the area’s overall goals and by working within existing overlay zoning and urban planning goals
-
Improve streetscapes through coordinating and promoting signage, gateway, traffic strategy and connected transportation
-
Enhance open spaces and the public realm, specifically three large parks—Forrest, Morris and Winchester, while encouraging individual owners to create and enhance green spaces, incorporate urban art and bury power lines whenever possible
-
Integrate parking and implement the 2007 parking-study recommendations, which include promoting construction of shared parking decks and a coordinated parking strategy shared by multiple institutions
-
Coordinate security and communications among security groups in the area, and enforce and strengthen panhandling ordinances
-
Focus on neighborhoods by engaging and helping to strengthen surrounding neighborhoods; support surrounding HOPE VI projects
-
Expand retail centers by improving existing sites and creating new, mixed-use developments to serve employees, students and residents
-
Strengthen green programs by creating a shared recycling program and pursuing energy-efficient facility guidelines; preserve existing trees
-
Build awareness and strengthen the Memphis Medical Center’s awareness within the local market and to use as a recruiting tool for area stakeholders
